A local family business spanning nearly three decades in the North of Scotland.

Bon Accord Glass, suppliers of Windows, Doors, Conservatories and Glass, is the longest established company of its kind in the North of Scotland. Bryan Keith, born in Aberdeenshire, started the company in 1974 after having began his career as head joiner to the Forbes-Leith family at Fyvie Castle. The castle is now the ownership of the National Trust for Scotland and Bryan has recently become one of the benefactors to the new Scottish Walled Garden - the only one of its kind in the country - in the castle grounds.

Bon Accord Glass - second generation
In recent years Bryan has handed the day to day running of the business to his son, Martin.

Bon Accord Glass' reputation has grown over the past 26 years from the basis of Bryan Keith's determination to ensure

  • the highest quality products available
Bon Accord Glass constantly strives to implement an ongoing research and development programme to ensure the products not only meet, but exceed the standards awarded by the British Standards Institute. There are many safety and design features on Bon Accord Glass products which will not be found anywhere else. Bon Accord Glass products carry four British Standard Kite Marks as well as being a member of the Conservatory Association and the Glass and Glazing Federation.
At Bon Accord Glass you will choose a design and style tailor made to suit you, your home and, of course, your budget.
  • the highest quality workmanship
Bon Accord Glass employs its own tradesmen - specialist craftsmen joiners, plasterers, glaziers, surveyors and architects. This way Bon Accord Glass can then ensure that all in the team will work towards the same exacting standards.
  • best service
The reputation and growth of Bon Accord Glass has largely been as a result of word of mouth referrals by existing customers. Bryan was adamant that from the outset his company would be in a position where the high standard of service to its customers before, during and after the decision making process would become notorious. As a result Bon Accord Glass has never had to implement any of the high pressure tactics as used by others in the field today.
  • best people
Bryan also attributes the success and growth of Bon Accord glass to the people he employs He believes you must play hard, but play fair and listen to your staff as much as your customers. Set challenging, yet achievable goals for the business and individually.
The oil and gas industry's descent on Aberdeen in the early 1970s meant that there was an overwhelming demand for office accommodation and residential property. However with this came difficult trading conditions for many small companies as larger organisations moved in vying for position. Bryan's drive and determination helped him identify that he could supply these larger construction companies with his products. He spent many years installing windows by day and manufacturing them by night. Hard work, yes, but Bon Accord Glass grew as a result.

Maintenance Free windows - a first
The introduction of maintenance free PVC windows was a dramatic technological change for Bon Accord Glass - not to mention Bryan, being a traditional carpenter. Brand new windows and maintenance free? This was exactly what people had been waiting for.

Enhancing, extending and adding value to the home
Bon Accord Glass' next achievement was to be the first company in the North of Scotland to supply conservatories.
The addition of a conservatory to the home would not only enhance the property and increase the amount of living accommodation, but is considered to be an alternative to moving house as well increasing the value of the property.

More than just a business
Over the years Bryan has become very well known for becoming involved in community led projects and events...

  • ...in Sport
Keen on football, he started Bon Accord Juniors and then went on to become owner/Chairman of Scottish League team, Montrose Football Club. In no time at all the team won the Forfarshire Cup for the first time in 25 years and then were promoted to the Scottish First Division. Bryan built the club a brand new stadium. He and his son Martin are still majority shareholders of the club.
  • ...in Education
Bryan has been a strong supporter of the Robert Gordon University. Several years ago he launched the annual Bon Accord glass Entrepreneurship Lectures. Here he hosts a dinner for some 300 students and provides them with the opportunity to meet with representatives of the business community, helping them to learn form the benefit and challenges of being in business.

In July 2000, Bryan was awarded with and Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration by the university in recognition of his contribution to the university and the business community over the years.

His business commitments have left Bryan little time in the way of leisure, however, he has still found the time to hold such positions as Burgess of Trade, Burgess of Guild, Round Table/Rotary Chairman and Aberdeen Enterprise Councillor.
